Moving House in Lahore: Packers & Movers Checklist

Found your new rental? The move itself is where most of the stress (and hidden cost) comes from. This checklist covers choosing packers and movers in Lahore and everything to sort out in the first week.

Hiring packers and movers

1. Get at least three quotes. Share a list or a quick video of your furniture and appliances, both addresses and the floors involved.
2. Ask for an itemised quote covering the vehicle (and how many trips), labour, packing material, stairs, and dismantling/re-fitting beds and wardrobes.
3. AC shifting is usually separate. Uninstalling, gas top-up and reinstalling split ACs is often done by an AC technician, so confirm who does it and the charge per unit.
4. Confirm the vehicle size so everything fits in one trip where possible.
5. Ask about damage. Most local movers don't offer insurance; agree in writing what happens if something breaks.
6. Pay a small advance only, and the balance after delivery.

Timing tips for Lahore

• The start and end of the month are the busiest times for movers, so book a few days ahead.
• Move early in the morning to avoid heat and traffic, especially in summer.
• Some housing societies require a gate pass or prior permission for goods vehicles. Check with the society office for both the old and new address.
• Keep valuables, documents and jewellery with you, not in the truck.

Packing checklist

• Label every box with its room and contents
• Pack a first-night bag: clothes, medicines, chargers, toiletries, bedsheets
• Wrap glassware and crockery individually
• Photograph TV and computer cable connections before unplugging
• Defrost and dry the fridge a day before

Moving-in day at the rental

• Walk through the house with the landlord and note any existing damage with dated photos.

• Check that all keys work and consider changing the main door lock.
• Test taps, geysers, switches and the water motor.

First week

• Make sure your landlord completes police tenant registration.
• Arrange internet. Ask neighbours which providers work well in that street, and see our guide to getting internet in a rented house.
• Update your address with your bank, employer and children's school.
• Save your landlord's, the society office's and a local plumber's and electrician's numbers.
