Questions to Ask Before Renting a Property
The questions to ask a landlord or agent before you commit to a rental in Lahore, covering money, utilities, rules and repairs.

Asking the right questions up front avoids surprises after you move in. Keep the answers in writing. A WhatsApp message is better than nothing, and the agreement is best.
Money
- What is the monthly rent, and when is it due?
- How much is the security deposit, and when will it be returned?
- How many months of advance rent are required?
- Is there an agent commission, and who pays it?
- Will the rent increase at renewal? By how much?
Utilities and running costs
- Are electricity and gas meters separate?
- Are there outstanding bills?
- Who pays society maintenance or security charges?
- Is there backup power, and who maintains it?
Rules and repairs
- Who handles repairs, and how quickly?
- Are pets, guests or home businesses allowed?
- Can I make small changes such as painting or fitting an AC?
- What notice is needed to leave?
Availability
- When can I move in?
- Is anyone else considering the property?
- Can I see the ownership documents before paying?
