The Orange Line Metro Train is Lahore's first metro, and it changes how long a commute feels. If you work or study along its route, living within walking distance of a station can save money on fuel, parking and ride-hailing. This guide explains the route, how to judge whether a home is really near a station, and what to check before renting.

The route in brief

  • It runs from Ali Town to Dera Gujran, about 27.1 km, with 26 stations.
  • Of those, 24 are elevated and two are underground: Anarkali and GPO.
  • The Punjab Mass Transit Authority describes the alignment as following the Multan Road corridor from Thokar Niaz Baig up to Chauburji, then via Lake Road, McLeod Road and Nicholson Road to the main Railway Crossing, and then along GT Road to the Lahore Ring Road interchange.
  • End-to-end travel time is stated as about 45 minutes.

We could not confirm the full list of station names in order from the sources we read. Check the Punjab Mass Transit Authority page or the official route map for the exact station near the home you are considering.

Areas along the corridor

Property listings for homes described as near the line include areas such as Islamia Park, Allama Iqbal Town (Nishtar Block) and Sabzazar Scheme. Those particular listings were for sale, but the areas also have rental homes. Because the line follows Multan Road and GT Road, you will see the same corridor names again and again on listings: Multan Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Chauburji, Lake Road and GT Road. Compare current flats for rent and houses for rent in those areas.

How to tell if a home is really near a station

  1. Ignore the advert's wording. "Near the Orange Line" can mean a five-minute walk or a rickshaw ride.
  2. Measure the walk, not the distance. Use a map app and choose walking directions to the nearest station entrance. Elevated stations have stairs or lifts, which add time.
  3. Walk it yourself at the time you would commute. Look at crossings, footpaths, street lighting and traffic.
  4. Check the station's side. On a wide road, the station may be across a busy carriageway with no crossing for some distance.
  5. Check the last stretch at night if you will return late, especially for women and families.

What living near the line is like

  • Good: a predictable commute that does not depend on road traffic, and cheaper than driving every day.
  • Trade-off: noise from trains and busy roads, especially for homes facing the elevated track or the main road.
  • Trade-off: rents near a station can be higher than a few streets away, and landlords may raise them for the same reason.
  • Check: the quieter lanes behind the main road can give a better balance.

Costs to compare

  • Rent near the line against rent a few kilometres out. Add your daily travel cost for both.
  • Fare, ticket rules and timings. We could not confirm the current fare, so check with the operator.
  • The cost of getting from the station to your final stop if you work away from the line.
