Renting out a property in Lahore can bring a steady monthly income, but a bad tenant or a vague agreement can cost you months of rent and a lot of stress. Most problems can be prevented with a bit of care at the start. Here is the process we'd follow.

1. Get the property ready

• Fix leaks, seepage, loose wiring and anything broken. Tenants judge a house in the first five minutes.
• Clear old electricity and gas dues so the new tenant starts with a clean bill.
• Check that meters for each portion are separate if you are renting floors separately.
• A fresh coat of paint and clean bathrooms often let you ask a better rent.

2. Set a realistic rent

4. Choose the tenant carefully

• Take CNIC copies of the tenant and adult family members.
• Ask for a reference, such as a previous landlord or employer, and actually call it.
• Trust your judgement. A tenant who pushes to skip the agreement or the police registration is a warning sign.

5. Put everything in writing
